Sticky Hair Monster
In this episode, I explore the concept of "Mu" from the Zen koan Joshu's Mu and the story of the Sticky Hair Monster to discuss how we engage with our thoughts and emotions. I explain that "Mu" signifies transcending dualistic thinking and attachment, even to the idea of non-attachment, encouraging us to question the nature of our inquiries rather than seeking definitive answers. The Sticky Hair Monster story illustrates that fighting against difficult emotions or situations is often futile, much like Prince Hector's attempts to defeat the monster with weapons. Instead, the key takeaway is to change our relationship with these internal struggles by understanding and befriending them, recognizing that we are both the prince and the monster, and that true peace comes from accepting our present state rather than resisting it. This approach offers a practical way to navigate life's challenges by using our intelligence and awareness to foster peace, rather than engaging in a losing battle against ourselves.
