Levels Of Morality
In this episode, I explore the concept of levels of morality, moving beyond simple obedience to rules towards a more nuanced ethical framework. I discuss how morality can be understood on three levels: rule-based obedience driven by fear, internalized rules enforced by guilt, and finally, ethics guided by wisdom, compassion, and an understanding of the bigger picture. This third level, which I refer to as ethics, requires introspection and the ability to discern the most skillful actions in any given situation, rather than rigidly adhering to external dictates. The practical application lies in understanding our own motivations and developing the capacity to make wise choices that consider both our needs and the needs of others, ultimately leading to greater self-knowledge.
