Unhooking Habitual Patterns
In this episode, I explore the concept of unhooking habitual patterns, using the Zen koan "Bells and Robes" as a starting point to question our automatic reactions. I explain how habitual patterns function like dominoes falling or a fish biting a hook, leading us into cycles of reactivity, often as a way to escape discomfort. A key insight is that the practice isn't about eliminating urges, but about recognizing the gap between an urge and our reaction to it, allowing for more skillful choices. This practice is relevant to everyday life, helping us understand our motivations and break free from unskillful behaviors, whether they are destructive or seemingly benign.
