The Unseen Teachers
In this episode, I explore the journey from being a student to becoming your own guide, drawing parallels between learning a new skill like paragliding and Siddhartha Gautama's path to enlightenment. I share a personal story of frustration while learning ridge soaring to illustrate how challenges can be humbling but ultimately lead to growth. A key insight is that while we can learn from teachers and external sources, the most profound wisdom comes from within, by trusting our own insights and experiences. This concept is further explored through the Buddhist idea of "taking refuge," which I interpret as learning to take refuge in ourselves, recognizing our own capacity to navigate life's difficulties. Ultimately, the episode encourages listeners to view life's unpredictable moments, both positive and negative, as "unseen teachers" that help us become more skillful at living, and to seek what our role models sought rather than simply imitating their paths.
